Questions
Asked, answered.
Everything people usually want to know before their first colour analysis. Anything else, just ask.
What is personal colour analysis?
A trained assessment of which colours sit in natural harmony with your skin, eyes and hair. Using comparative fabric draping in controlled light, Shann identifies your seasonal palette: the hues, depths and intensities that soften shadows, define your features and make you look rested and well.
It is guidance, not a rulebook. The aim is to make getting dressed and shopping easier, not to police your wardrobe.
What actually happens in the appointment?
Your consultation moves through four stages: an assessment of your natural colouring; comparative draping, where precision-dyed fabrics are held against you one after another so you can see the differences yourself; the identification of your home season and precise sub-season; and practical guidance for using your palette in real life, from coats and denim to metals and glasses.
The exact contents, duration and location of each service are confirmed when your booking is arranged.
How should I prepare?
Come without makeup and without fake tan; both can mask your natural undertone, which is the foundation of the analysis. Wear whatever you like, come with your hair as you normally wear it, and bring nothing but curiosity. Full preparation guidance arrives with your booking confirmation.
My hair is coloured. Does that affect my result?
No, coloured hair is entirely fine, and very common. Your underlying colouring is read from several characteristics together, not hair alone. If a significant colour change is planned for the days around your appointment, mention it in advance and Shann will advise on timing.
Will I be told I cannot wear black, or my favourite colour?
No. Nothing in your result forbids you a colour you love. Your palette shows where harmony lives; for colours that sit further from it, you will learn how to wear them well, whether by moving them away from your face, balancing them with one of your palette colours, or choosing a version of them that leans towards your season.
If black is not naturally yours, you will leave knowing exactly what to wear instead, which is one of the most useful things an analysis gives you.
What is the 16-season system?
A refinement of classic seasonal analysis. Each of the four families, Spring, Autumn, Winter and Summer, holds four distinct sub-seasons, from True Spring to Muted Summer, sixteen palettes in all. The extra precision matters: two people can both be Summers yet suit noticeably different colours. Your result names your home season, your sub-season and your sister seasons, so you know exactly where your palette sits and where it can borrow from.
Is colour analysis for everyone?
Yes. Every person has natural colouring, so every person has a palette, across all ages, genders and skin tones. The 16-season system is applied through individual observation, never assumption. If you have accessibility requirements or anything that would help you feel comfortable, tell us before the appointment and we will make the adjustments we reasonably can.
Can I give an appointment as a gift?
A colour analysis makes a lovely and rather memorable gift. Enquire through the contact page, mention that it is for someone else, and we will arrange it together. Do note that the person attending should be happy to come without makeup and fake tan on the day.
Where do appointments take place?
Appointments are held in person in London and, when Shann is home in Australia, in Brisbane. The precise location and available dates are confirmed with your booking, together with directions and everything you need for the day.
What do I take home?
Every service includes practical guidance you can act on immediately, and any take-home palette, guide or materials described in the service listing are yours to keep for personal use. Details are confirmed when your appointment is arranged.
How much does it cost, and how long does it take?
Both depend on the service you choose. The contents, duration and price of each appointment are set out when your booking is arranged and confirmed in writing, so there are no surprises. Whichever service you book, the appointment is never rushed; the analysis takes the time it takes.
Do you offer online colour analysis?
No, and deliberately so. An accurate analysis depends on controlled light and true fabric colour against your skin, neither of which survives a camera and a screen. Every consultation is held in person so that what you see in the mirror is real.
Can I bring someone with me?
Often, yes. Mention it when you enquire and Shann will let you know what works for the service and space you are booking. Anyone under 18 attending an appointment must be accompanied by an adult throughout.
What if I have questions after my appointment?
Palettes tend to raise their best questions a week later, in a changing room. You are welcome to email [email protected] afterwards and Shann will reply personally.
What should I do if a colour I love is not in my palette?
Keep loving it. Wear it away from your face, pair it with one of your palette colours to balance it, or find the version of it that leans towards your season; most colours have one. Your analysis will cover exactly this, because it is one of the questions everyone asks.
Does a palette go out of date?
Your season is based on your natural colouring, so it does not follow trends and does not expire. Most people find their palette stays with them for life, with soft evolutions as hair silvers or colouring gently changes over the years. That permanence is also what makes an analysis such a sustainable investment: every future purchase can be made with confidence rather than guesswork.
How do I book, cancel or reschedule?
Enquire through the contact page or email [email protected], and Shann will reply personally with availability. Cancellation and rescheduling are covered plainly in our Booking Terms; in short, more than 48 hours’ notice gives you a refund or a transfer, and we are always human about genuine emergencies.
